The 2011–12 season is Manchester City Football Club's 110th season of football, its tenth consecutive season in the Premier League, and its fifteenth season in the Premier League since it was first created with Manchester City as one of the its original 22 founding member clubs. The club will also play in the UEFA Champions League for only the second time, and the first time since its rebranding from being the European Cup, after finishing 3rd in the 2010–11 Premier League. Manchester City's U19 squad will play in the inaugural tournament of the NextGen series.

As for the previous two seasons, this season's team kits are produced by Umbro with Etihad Airways as the shirt sponsor. Only the away team kit was retained from the previous season, becoming the new third kit for the up-coming season. Replacing it as official away kit is a return to the red-and-black-striped away kit of the Joe Mercer era, when the AC Milan-styled shirts inspired the Manchester City team of a generation back through the club's most successful era.[2]
The front of City's new home kit features a subtle graphic representation of a sound wave generated by fans singing "Blue Moon", the club's unofficial theme song.
The goalkeeper change strip for the new season was announced to be a black kit with sky blue trim reminiscent of the sky blue sponsor logo on the 2011–12 third kit.
